Klondike starts with you setting up a home in a remote part of Canada. Your job is to gather resources so that you may survive and eventually start to expand. The play style is similar to many other strategy games, but the graphics, style and gameplay mechanics are most similar to a series of games called Settlers.

A child-friendly game that incorporates farming

Part of your survival includes livestock farming, and yet the game has managed to avoid drawing attention to the nastier side of livestock farming to ensure the game is still child friendly. In Klondike, you are encouraged to build structures, farm, and explore for extra resources. In that sense, there is a fair amount for a casual gamer or a child to do without becoming bored, but it does get a little repetitive in the later stages of the game. The graphics and environment/character styling seems very cartoonish, though it is clear that the designers took a lot of time to ensure the game doesn't look cheap.

Klondike has flaws that hardcore gamers will not be able to overlook

If you are a hardcore gamer who loves the intricacy and micro-management of a strategy game, then this is not the game for you. The game is not complex and micromanaging has little effect on your success. The expeditions are reminiscent of the thing you may see on Fallout Shelter, but each mission is just a series of click-and-wait tasks. This game is better suited for casual gamers and people who enjoy click-and-wait apps/games.
